Cambridge FC hosts pre-season match
The preseason match saw a healthy dose of competitiveness between the two teams.
Cambridge FC hosted a pre-season match against 11 Experience FC of Kwa-Thema on September 7.
The match was held at the Jim Fouché Stadium in Nigel.
“The match was held in preparation for the upcoming Hollywood Bets Regional League,” said Ignatius Maphike, chairperson of the club.
“Both teams have many new players hoping to be selected for the team that will be playing in the league, so the friendly match was also a good way for them to show their mettle.”
The first half of the match started slowly according to Maphike.
“Both teams were tactical in their approach to the match and played a waiting game rather than an aggressive and offensive game,” he said.
“But despite this, both teams showed character in their attempts to break through the other’s defences.”
The first half ended with a score of 0-0.
“The Cambridge team had a few opportunities to score in the first half but missed,” Maphike said.
“The second half was sloppier, with both teams seeking opportunities to break through and score.
“The team from Kwa-Thema had the ball in their possession for most of the half, but luckily the Cambridge team managed to keep their positions.”
11 Experience FC managed to get a penalty late in the match but failed to convert it into a goal.
The match ended with a final score of 0-0.
“The game was good and showcased a healthy level of competitiveness between the two teams,” Maphike said.
“It will be a first for many of the younger players to play on this level, but we’re hoping to see their heart and character once they adapt.
“We are looking forward to the season ahead and hope that a few more senior players will add to the experience of the team.”
