Heidelberg athlete competes in Gqeberha

Phumlisa Papa of the Heidelberg Athletics Club competed in the ASA Cross Country Championships on September 16 in Gqeberha.

Papa represented his community and the Athletic Vaal Triangle (AVT) in the 4km cross-country race.

“Running in the ASA Cross Country Championships was a dream come true,” Papa said.

“I had an absolute blast, and it was a great experience running with top athletes.”

Papa completed his race in 12:58 in windy conditions.

Papa placed 48th overall and in the 30th position in his category.

“I thank our community for their support and the Heidelberg Athletics Club for cheering me on,” Papa said.

“This race is close to my heart, and no matter the time or position, I will always cherish it.”
