National Association of SGBs to hold induction

The National Association of School Governing Bodies (NASGB), with the Department of Education, invites newly elected school governing bodies (SGBs) in Gauteng East for an induction on May 18.

During the induction, the newly appointed SGBs will be provided with the necessary tools to fulfil their duties as school governors.

The induction will be held at Kenneth Masekela Secondary School at 08:00.

NASGB chairperson Sabelo Mhlanga extends his gratitude to the outgoing SGBs for working hard and diligently through the difficulties of conducting their training online.

“We appreciate their contribution,” said Mhlanga.

Mhlanga said the NASGB also requests parents be available to stand for school governance, especially the professionals and academics.

“The NASGB is concerned about parents’ poor attendance during nominations and the election period of the SGB,” said Mhlanga.

“Parents must understand that the SGB is the third important democratic election process during this new dispensation. We need them to understand that through this process, we’re deepening, protecting, and defending our democracy.

“We come from a different era when parents had no say in an African child’s education. Therefore, we must invite everyone, especially parents, to decolonise our education.”

NASGB member Bhekizizwe Siluma said the association reminds all governors to commit to educating their learners, citing that they should never compromise, postpone, or negotiate on high quality.

“Let us unite to build a conducive environment for our educators and all stakeholders involved in educating our children and be able to deliver exceptional results in education,” said Siluma.
