Local writer publishes fourth book
Sicwebu recently published his fourth book Dreams in A Quantum, a young adult fiction.
Thokozani Sicwebu (34) recently published his fourth fiction novel.
His love for writing started in 2010 and came after many of his high school teachers encouraged him to be a storyteller because the stories he would tell in school always got him out of trouble.
Sicwebu is married to Nancy and the couple have two children, a daughter Nonhlanhla (11) and a son Sonwabile (4). The family enjoys the peacefulness of Heidelberg and Sicwebu is confident that the peacefulness will inspire him to keep writing.
Sicwebu said that in his writing he seeks for the reader to be able to relate even if it is with just one of the ideas in his books.
“The inspiration for my writing comes from observations of the world surrounding me and I also seek to challenge the way we think about our world,” he said.
Sicwebu has written four fiction novels to date. The first one, Twisted, is a thriller. The second one, Lost In Love, a romance and the third one, The Holiday, also a thriller. His latest book, Dreams In A Quantum, is young adult fiction.
“Having to juggle my 9-5 job and family commitments makes the writing take a bit longer especially considering that from time to time there’s obstacles like the writer’s block. So the time varies for each book. To finish my latest one, it took me about 16 months whilst the one preceding it took me just a year,” Sicwebu said and added that he mostly writes fiction that reflects on current affairs about South Africa.
“I wouldn’t box myself into saying I write one specific genre but rather try to write stories authentic to South Africa whilst also seeking to challenge my writing capabilities. Hence I also have written five poetry eBooks to accommodate those who like to read smaller books. The poetry eBooks I have released vary from a collection of romance poems, prose to poems dedicated to women,” he added.
Sicwebu’s latest book is a story about two siblings who come to Gauteng from the villages of KZN to better their lives. In their journey to improving their lives, they choose different routes with one choosing to be self-employed whilst the other one seeks success in education.

The one who only has a matric certificate and chose to be self-employed ends up being more successful and happier than the educated sibling.
“In this book I wanted to show that with self-belief and determination, anything can be achieved. This book is not trying to look down on the importance of education but to show us that we should be aware that success is not only dependent on education and that us as parents and educators have the responsibility to realise that some children can be gifted intellectually whilst some children could be gifted doing things with their hands,” Sicwebu said.
He is currently busy with two fiction novels, a psychological thriller and an action-packed novel.
“My long-term plan is to continue writing more novels whilst trying to see some if not all of my books being made into movies. It is also my wish to see my books in the local libraries,” he concluded.

All titles are available directly from him as hardcopies or as eBooks and also available on Gumroad and all major online bookstores.
