Community pays tribute to Ratanda Anti-Crime Unit member killed in car accident

Ratanda bids farewell to beloved anti-crime activist Sibongiseni “Ma’ Burglar” Msibi after tragic death.

Family, friends and the Ratanda community are mourning the loss of Sibongiseni Msibi, affectionately known as “Ma’ Burglar”, following his death in a car accident on May 25.

Msibi, a dedicated member of the Ratanda Local Safety Forum and Ratanda Anti-Crime Unit, was widely respected for his unwavering commitment to fighting crime and helping create safer communities in Ratanda and surrounding areas.

Several community members described Msibi as a fearless and compassionate man who devoted much of his time to protecting residents and supporting anti-crime operations.

Thandi Nhlapo said Msibi was always willing to assist community members, regardless of the situation.

“Sibongiseni was the type of person who never ignored a cry for help. Day or night, he was always available whenever there was trouble in the community. He dedicated his life to protecting people and making sure criminals feared targeting innocent residents,” she said.

Lerato Dlamini said Msibi’s dedication and bravery inspired many young people in the area.

“He led by example and showed young people that it is possible to stand up for your community and make a difference. Many people looked up to him because he was disciplined, respectful and passionate about helping others. Ratanda has truly lost a community hero,” she said.

Tributes have poured in on social media, with residents and community organisations sharing messages of support and condolences to the Msibi family.
