Skoon Heidelberg volunteers tackle litter along Von Gesau Drive

Volunteers from Skoon Heidelberg cleaned a stretch of Von Gesau Drive on October 15, between Suikerbos Old Age Home and the R23, and plan to return this week to continue their efforts to keep Heidelberg clean.

Members of Skoon Heidelberg continued their efforts to keep Heidelberg clean on October 15, targeting Von Gesau Drive between Suikerbos Old Age Home and the R23.

The volunteers focused on cleaning the area and removing litter as part of their ongoing commitment to keeping public spaces cleaner and promoting environmental awareness in the community.

Skoon Heidelberg is a community-driven initiative that encourages residents to take responsibility for their surroundings through regular clean-up activities.

The organiSation meets every Thursday from 08:00 to 09:00, allowing volunteers to work together to improve the appearance of streets and other public spaces. Charlotte Cloete, a volunteer with the organisation, said keeping Heidelberg clean requires residents’ collective effort.

“Keeping our town clean is a responsibility we all share. We may not be able to clean the entire town in one day, but every small effort makes a difference. We encourage residents to join us, take pride in their surroundings and help us create a cleaner environment for everyone,” she said.

The group’s weekly activities aim to boost community participation and raise awareness of littering’s impact on the environment.

By dedicating their time to cleaning public spaces, volunteers hope to inspire more residents to dispose of waste responsibly and help prevent litter from accumulating in the streets.

Following the October 15 clean-up, members planned to return to the Von Gesau Drive area this week to continue their efforts.

Residents interested in joining the initiative can contact Charlotte Cloete on 083 488 5337 for more information.
