Heidelberg Rugby on course for semi-final honours

The Heidelberg Rugby Club recorded strong victories against Boksburg in their latest Valke Merlin League matches.

The Heidelberg Rugby Club played its Valke Merlin League matches against the Boksburg Rugby Club in Boksburg on July 19.

Heidelberg’s first team secured a deserved 57-15 win. Boksburg opened the scoring with a penalty, leading 3-0, but Heidelberg soon took control. By halftime, the Berge had scored five tries and three conversions, bringing the halftime score to Heidelberg 31-3 Boksburg.

In the second half, Heidelberg added four more tries and three conversions, bringing their total to nine tries. Boksburg scored 12 points in the second half.

The Heidelberg point scorers:

Tries: Damien Grace, Werner Griessel, Kobus van Rooyen, Enrico Janse van Rensburg, Eben Barnard, Henry van Biljon, Brennan Ryan, Ruhan Brits and Johan Ness.

Conversions: Francois Vorster (six).

The Heidelberg Rugby Club aims to be more than just a league team. Their goal is to reach the semi-finals and, hopefully, the final of the Merlin League. With their current results, they are on track.

The second team also delivered a strong performance, winning 45-5.

Heidelberg will play their next round of matches on July 26 at Hoërskool Volkskool. Their opponents will be Vaal University of Technology.
