Heidelberg teen selected for prestigious Ireland rugby tour
Eighteen-year-old Heidelberg rugby player Billy Matthee has been selected for the BRSI Bulldogs Ireland Rugby Tour 2026, where he will gain valuable international experience against overseas opposition.
Rising rugby star Billy Matthee has been selected for the opportunity of a lifetime after earning a place in the BRSI Bulldogs Ireland Rugby Tour 2026.
The 18-year-old Heidelberg resident will travel to Ireland later this year as part of the touring squad, where he will face international opposition and gain valuable experience on the global rugby stage.
The selection marks another important milestone in Matthee’s promising rugby career. He has also been selected to represent the LSEN Valke for a second consecutive year, further underlining his growing reputation, talent and dedication to the sport.
For any young rugby player, an international tour represents a significant achievement and recognition of years of discipline, commitment and sacrifice both on and off the field.
The Ireland tour will provide Matthee with an opportunity to test his abilities against overseas competition, further develop his skills, and showcase the rugby talent emerging from Heidelberg.
To help cover the costs of the tour, a BackaBuddy fundraising campaign has been launched.
Community members, rugby supporters, local businesses and former players are being encouraged to support the young athlete as he prepares for the international trip.
Those unable to contribute financially are encouraged to share their story and help raise awareness of the fundraising initiative.
