Heidelberg bowlers finish fourth overall at competitive KBC Bonanza

Heidelberg Bowling Club produced a strong showing at the KBC Bonanza 2026 in Klerksdorp, with its men’s side securing a commendable fourth-place finish in a competitive three-day tournament from September 25 to 27.

Eight Heidelberg bowlers travelled to Klerksdorp Bowling Club for the tournament, which featured 20 Any 4’s teams from across Gauteng and the North West, including Klerksdorp, Orkney, Potchefstroom, Mafikeng, Vanderbijlpark and Pretoria.

The teams were divided into two sections, with each side playing seven sectional matches over the weekend.

Teams played three games on Friday, three on Saturday and their final sectional fixture on Sunday.

The sectional standings then determined the placing matches, with the top four teams in each section advancing to the finals.

The two section winners contested the championship match, while the second-, third- and fourth-placed teams played for their respective overall positions.

Heidelberg’s men’s team of Tinus Jacobs, Werner Schipper, Herman van der Merwe and Trevor van Zyl delivered a consistent performance throughout the sectional stage, finishing second in their section.

Their result earned them a place in the match for third and fourth overall, where they faced a strong Potchefstroom combination.

The Heidelberg side was involved in a closely fought contest but ultimately finished fourth overall, completing an impressive tournament campaign against a strong field.

The Heidelberg ladies’ team, consisting of Liesl Jacobs, Anri Schipper, Elsie Rossouw and Joanette van der Merwe, also contributed positively to the weekend.

Although they did not progress to the final placing matches, the team was recognised for its sportsmanship and positive approach, receiving the Team with the Best Spirit award.

Beyond the results, the tournament gave Heidelberg players the chance to compete against bowlers from other clubs while strengthening relationships within the bowling community.
