Watch: Thunderstorm leaves trail of damage in KZN city

Trees were uprooted and homes were damaged in a severe thunderstorm that hit Empangeni yesterday afternoon.

Destructive rains and strong winds on Monday afternoon have left a trail of damage in Empangeni and surrounding areas.

Residents and business owners have reported flooding as well as structural damage to their homes and to office buildings owing to the hail storm, accompanied by lightning and thunder, that battered the region a short while ago.

Trees have been uprooted in Canefields.

Some streets in Empangeni have been blocked by fallen trees.
The strong winds and hail storm have uprooted trees and damaged homes in Empangeni.

Some roads are closed owing to fallen trees and parts of Richards Bay were without power as a result of the heavy rains which affected Eskom lines.
