Woman wards off armed intruders

A 57-year-old woman managed to ward off two intruders who surprised her in the bedroom of her home in Grobler Street at 02:00 on Saturday night.

Police spokesman for Ermelo, Capt Carla Prinsloo, said the woman was woken by her dogs that had become restless.

Thinking the dogs wanted to go outside, she opened a door to let them out.

She returned to the bedroom and waited for the dogs to return.

Two armed men then appeared in the bedroom, one of whom fired a shot into the mattress from a handgun and demanded money.

The woman grabbed a jewelry box and threw it at the intruders who fled after taking an i-Phone to the value of R12 000.
