Riots in Breyten escalate

A member of the Community Development Worker (CDW) was assaulted post the meeting for exchanging harsh words

What started out as a small protest with a fairly small group of people chanting struggle songs last Tuesday at KwaZanele, Breyten. Today the situation turned volatile after  a failed meeting marred with verbal insults and physical altercations yesterday afternoon.

Members of the community once again barricaded streets but this time tyres were  burned and police pelted with stones which led to them firing rubber bullets.

In the meeting at the community hall yesterday, two officials known to the newspaper reportedly exchanged words and allegations against one another.
