The Police are warning everyone to be vigilant, not leave valuable items that attract unnecessary attention lying around in their cars, business owners to be aware of suspicious customers in their shops and not leave car windows open in the parking bay.
Community members are also encouraged not to leave their gates open and where possible increase security in their cars and install CCTV cameras in their establishments. According to the Police, some of the hot spot areas include the parking bays on Voortrekker Street and parking lots at the different supermarkets.
Members of the community are also encouraged to report crime as there are incentives for people giving the Police information that leads to successful arrests.
