Youngster drowns in water pool

Police spokesman for Ermelo, Capt Carla Prinsloo said a man who was herding cattle discovered the body.

The partly decomposed body of an as yet unidentified young boy, estimated to be about 17 years of age, was found floating in a water-filled excavation at a disused mine West of Ermelo on Thursday.

Police spokesman for Ermelo, Capt Carla Prinsloo said a man who was herding cattle discovered the body at about 13:30 and raised the alarm.

Police forensic experts were called to the scene and the body was brought to the banks.

A school bag and clothing was found nearby.

Police have launched an inquest into the incident.

A youngster of similar age was reported missing at the Ermelo police earlier in the week but the two incidents had not been positively linked by the time of going to print.
