The Carolina Magistrate’s Court last Friday convicted and sentenced a man found guilty of dealing in drugs (cannabis).

Mathews Vilakazi (39) was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment suspended for four years on condition he is not found guilty of the same offence.

He was also fined R70 000 or two years’ imprisonment and his motor vehicle, a Toyota double cab 4×4, valued at R100 000, was forfeited to the state.

On 28 July last year, members of the Hawks Mpumalanga received information about a man from one of the neighbouring countries who entered South Africa with cannabis. This led to the arrest of Vilakazi who was found in possession of 300 kg of the drug with an estimated street value of R700 000, which was subsequently seized together with his car.
