Mayflower man arrested for possession of marijuana at the Waverly Port of Entry

Police found 38 rolls of marijuana weighing approximately 40,3 kilograms with a street value of R150 000 under the suspect's vehicle.

A 33-year-old man was arrested at the Waverly Port of Entry for possession of marijuana on Friday, 1 June.

According to the Mayflower Police spokesman, Const Tryphina Utla, the suspect was driving a white half truck when the police requested to search the vehicle.

“The man granted permission and during the search, police discovered 38 rolls of marijuana wrapped in brown tape under the truck,” Const Utla said.

Police confirmed that the drugs weighed 40,3kg and had a street value of R150 000.

The suspect appeared in the Mayflower Periodical Court on Monday, 4 June and was granted bail of R5 000.

He will reappear in court on 11 July and police are still conducting further investigations.

The newly-appointed station commander of Mayflower Police, Capt David Zwane, thanked police members for a job well done.

“Bringing perpetrators to justice is our job and we request the community to report any crime that is happening around Mayflower to the station,” Capt Zwane said.
