According to Mr Tsepo Mabizela, a Chrissiesmeer resident, the assault allegedly took place at a community meeting at the community stadium in Chrissiesmeer.

He claimed he was among the group of people who were told by the councillor that they were unwelcome.

Mr Madonsela allegedly did not want to give them the agenda of the meeting.

Thereafter, it is alleged a fight broke out between the Mr Madonsela and community members.

Mr Madonsela allegedly hit Mr Mabizela with a bottle, whereafter he had to go to the Carolina Hospital to receive stitches.

According to Capt Johan Terblanche, station commander of Chrissiesmeer Police, Mr Madonsela was charged and arrested on 25 September.

He added, Mr Madonsela appeared in Ermelo Magistrate Court and the case was withdrawn on 26 September.

The Highvelder sent an elaborate email to Mr Madonsela enquiring about the allegations made against him, however, he preferred to respond through Mr Mandla Zwane, spokesman for the Msukaligwa Municipality.

“Mr Madonsela confirmed he is the councillor for ward 19 in Chrissiesmeer and that he was arrested, but does not wish to comment on any of the allegations made against him.”
