ERMELO – An unusual recovery effort unfolded at the first intersection entering Ermelo from the N17 Bethal Road after a bakkie ended up in a roadside ditch.

It is unclear how the bakkie came to be in the ditch.

Those at the scene initially attempted to free the vehicle by placing bricks and rocks underneath it and using a jack.

An attempt was also made to pull the bakkie out with a Citi Golf, but this proved unsuccessful.

Further assistance was subsequently brought in, and the bakkie was eventually pulled from the ditch.
