FOLLOW-UP: Bethal SPCA investigates alleged animal cruelty in Ermelo

“We also supplied her with an ointment and instructions on how to administer it onto the cow’s neck.”

The Highvelder recently reported on a bull and one other head of cattle next to the road exiting Ermelo to Bethal.

Both animals had been roped and tied, with a rope chaffing through the flesh of one’s neck.

The Highvelder brought the case to the attention of the National Council of SPCAs who in turn notified the Bethal SPCA to investigate.

Ms Laurna Coetzer, inspector at the Bethal SPCA, said: “The one animal’s neck was abraded by the rope and we instructed the owner to keep it at her stand until the laceration healed.

Ms Coetzer also requested that the cattle be branded in order for them to graze in a larger area, further away from the N17 and without them being tied up.
