Thusivillage residents sick and tired of sewage

According to a resident that lives close to one of the open sewers, her three-year-old grandson fell into the open drain and other residents had to help them to get him out.

Residents of Ward 2 in Thusivillage have been complaining about blocked sewer systems for the past five weeks, without any answers from Msukaligwa Local Municipality.

Their biggest issue is municipal workers that come out to work on the drains, but leaving them open without resolving the issue.

According to a resident that lives close to one of the open sewers, her three-year-old grandson fell into the open drain and other residents had to help them to get him out.

“We have had this problem for the past five weeks now, and nobody seems to care.”

They feel that the municipality will only do something about the situation when a child actually dies in one of the drains.

Residents have taken it upon themselves and since closed the drain to prevent any other children from falling into it.

In another area in Ward 2, a resident showed the Highvelder where the sewage flows and floods his yard.

He added that after numerous calls to the municipality’s call centre, a few municipal workers came out to the blocked drained, however, they did not complete the work.

Heavy rains bring with it more problem none only to his property but to all living downhill.
