Richard retires after 50 years’ faithful service at Nooitgedacht Research Farm in Ermelo
Mr Makoena was transferred to Ermelo, and he began working at Nooitgedacht on May 2, 1972, as a messenger delivering the mail.
ERMELO – Mr Richard Makoena (65) retired at the end of September after 50 years of service at Nooitgedacht Research Farm.
He was born on a farm near Ermelo on April 3, 1956.
His school career began at Peter Mabusa Primary School and he later attended Lindile Secondary School.
After school, he decided to move to Pretoria in search of employment, where he was appointed at the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land And Environmental Affairs.
Mr Makoena was transferred to Ermelo, and he began working at Nooitgedacht on May 2, 1972, as a messenger delivering the mail.
He was promoted to a storeman in 1993.
In the next 13 year he gained experience, ensuring that goods received or sent out from the storeroom was correct and corresponded with the correct paperwork.
In August 2006, he was appointed as the farm foreman in charge of the farmworkers.
With this new appointment came a lot of paperwork, but he added that throughout his time as supervisor, he loved working alongside the farmworkers.
