ERMELO – A 33-year-old man of Thusi Village has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court for raping a minor girl (15) with mental impairment.
According to information from Ms Monica Nyuswa, the spokesman for the Mpumalanga NPA, the accused is a brother-in-law of the victim.
“Before the rape incident, the accused asked for a bedroom to sleep with the victim from her nephew, which did not materialise,” she said.
She added that on March 15, the man and the young girl attended a family function.
He asked that they meet at Emadamini Road and she complied.
“When she arrived, the man dragged her into the veld and forcefully raped her.
In court, he pleaded not guilty and claimed consent.
