CAROLINA – Sifiso Ronald Nkomo, aged 28, was arrested in connection with dealing in dagga on April 25.

According to Sgt Thabang Mokwana, spokesman for the Carolina police, members of the visible policing were patrolling the area when they noticed a suspicious white Ford Ranger bakkie.

The members ordered the driver to stop and searched the vehicle. The police discovered 31 refuse bags inside, stashed with dagga that weighed about 113.6kg.

“The suspect was arrested and preliminary investigation suggested that the man was allegedly trafficking the dagga from the Kingdom of eSwatini to South Africa when the police intercepted him,” Sgt Mokwana said.

The said bakkie was also confiscated as the police believe that it might have been used in other crimes.

The suspect appeared in the Carolina Magistrate’s Court on April 26, where he was released on R10 000 bail. The case was postponed to June 13.
