Man sentenced to 15 years for armed robbery in Amersfoort

The accused had staged an armed robbery at a local shop in Ezamokuhle.

AMERSFOORT – According a provincial police spokesman, Brig Selvy Mohlala, Mthombo Aaron Mbuli (36) staged an armed robbery at a local shop in Ezamokuhle.

“When the owner, an Ethiopian national, heard a strange noise on the roof, he immediately contacted a local off-duty police officer. Upon arrival, Mbuli attempted to flee the scene and was involved in a shootout with the police.” Brig Mohlala said.

He said Mbuli was found in possession of a pistol and ammunition.

“He sustained injuries from the shootout and was admitted at Elsie Ballot Hospital, and later transferred to Ermelo Provincial Hospital for further medical attention. After being discharged, he was was taken back into police custody.”

Mbuli was arrested and charged for housebreaking with the purpose to rob, and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
