Five murders reported at Ermelo police station

ERMELO – Five separate murder cases were recently reported to the Ermelo Police Station; one person was beaten to death and four were stabbed.

In the first incident, the body of a 34-year-old man was discovered at about 19:45 in Mavundla Street in Wesselton on July 29.

According to Captain Carla Prinsloo, the spokesperson for the Ermelo police, the man was severely beaten and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

She added that a 42-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and according to information received, the deceased and the suspect resided at the same address. They had an argument which allegedly led to the murder.

The man appeared in the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court on August 1, facing a charge of murder.

In another incident the body of a man was found at about 03:00 in Mthopeng Street in Ext 1, Wesselton on July 30.

“According to information, the victim was on his way home from a liquor outlet when he was followed by three suspects.”

When he started running, the suspects chased him, caught up with him and stabbed him several times.

The suspects robbed the man of his firearm.
