MKHONDO – Following the murder of a ward councillor and two other individuals, the minister and deputy minister of police, along with the SAPS administration led by national commissioner General Fannie Masemola, visited Mkhondo (formerly Piet Retief) on January 16.

According to police sources, three unidentified shooters shot and killed Sbonelo Mthembu, a 36-year-old councillor from Mkhondo’s Longhomes Township, and two of his friends, on Friday January 13.

During the visit, the SAPS briefed the police ministry on the trends in local crime as well as the tactics employed to stop violent and other contact crimes.

They also visited the victim’s family’s home to share their condolences.

The three victims were allegedly shot in a certain yard, according to authorities.
