Mother and three children hacked to death in Piet Retief

An axe believed to have been used to murder them was also found in the same room.

MKHONDO – The police arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of a mother and her twin sons and daughter, who were hacked to death in their house in Phola Park in Thandukukhanya.

The suspect appeared in the Mkhondo Magistrate’s Court on February 27.

According to Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, a provincial police spokesperson, the police discovered the bodies on February 24 at about 22:25, after family members complained that they could not reach these victims after several attempts.

The police responded to the complaint, however, they found the house locked.

“They had to use force to gain entry into the house and found a boy’s body in the kitchen,” Mohlala said.

A 47-year-old woman, her 11-year-old son and her six-year-old daughter’s bodies were found in one of the rooms.

An axe believed to have been used to murder them was also found in the same room.

The body found in the kitchen was of the twin brother of the 11-year-old boy.
