Police arrest man in Carolina possibly involved in theft of motor vehicles and smuggling them out of country
The man was arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen property.
CAROLINA – A 41-year-old man, Ibrahim Kampembe, was arrested by police members of the vehicle investigation section in collaboration with officials from the South African International Crime Bereau, after he was found driving a stolen white Toyota Fortuner.
The vehicle was reportedly stolen in eMalahleni in February.
According to Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, a provincial police spokesperson, the police spotted the suspicious vehicle and stopped the driver to inspect it.
“Upon further investigation, they discovered that the car had in fact been reported stolen in February,” Mohlala said.
The man was arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen property.
Inside the vehicle, the police found about 40 blank application forms for vehicle renewals, registration and certificates.
“This led the police to believe that he could possibly be involved in illegal dealings involving theft of motor vehicles that are somehow frequently smuggled out of the country.”
