UPDATE: More videos and photos surface of trucks torched between Ermelo and Mkhondo

Several photos and videos have been circulating on various safety groups relating to the trucks that were set alight.

The Highvelder is currently en route to where the cleanup has begun.

According to Mpumalanga Police spokesman, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the four trucks were burned this morning at around 05:30 on the N2 between Piet Retief and Ermelo.

Three sustained a lot of damage while only the cabin of one caught on fire.

One woman sustained burn wounds on her feet as she was allegedly asleep in one of the trucks.

She was taken for medical treatment by an EMS vehicle.

It is alleged that people emerged from the veld and approached the trucks with firearms, instructing the drivers to get out or else they would burn them alive inside.

The drivers fled the scene, and the trucks were then set alight.

No one has been arrested yet, and the police are continuing with the investigation.

The motives for the attacks are unknown at the moment.

Four trucks torched between Ermelo and Mkhondo

MKHONDO – Highvelder received reports of four trucks that were set alight on the N2 road between Ermelo and Mkhondo (Piet Retief) on 12 July.

Acsu, The SAPS, Msukaligwa Fire and Rescue Services and various other roleplayers are on the scene.

The road will be closed as the fire services extinguish the fires and clears the road.

According to members of Acsu, a woman was injured in the incident.

The extent of her injuries is unknown.

In a matter of a few days more than 17 trucks have been torched in three different provinces.

This is a developing story and Highvelder will keep readers updated.
