DAVEL – Gert Sibande District Municipality’s (GSDM) executive mayor, councillor Walter Mngomezulu, recently engaged with KwaDela resident during an imbizo which was held at KwaDela sports grounds.
Cllr Mngomezulu was joined by various councillors and officials, including Msukaligwa Local Municipality executive mayor, councillor Mapulane Nkosi.
During the imbizo, residents raised concerns on issues of service delivery in the area as well as the challenges of overflowing sewer spillages and the dilapidating road and electrical infrastructure.
“I assure residents of KwaDela and surrounding areas that this Imbizo is not just a ticking of the box exercise, but that all the challenges they have raised will be addressed through the District Development Model,” Cllr Mngomezulu said.
He expresses gratitude to residents for being present at the imbizo and raising concerns on issues of service delivery to GSDM representatives.
The order of the day went on with the official handing over of KwaDela water treatment plant, which was funded by the Department of Water and Sanitation.
GSDM officials concluded by visiting KwaDela Combined School’s prize giving ceremony and donated sanitary towels to the pupils.
A jojo tank was also donated to KwaDela Drop In Centre as well as food parcels for underprivileged families in the area.
“We are actually working on moving away from these acts of donating food parcels, but we aim to donate gardening tools and seedlings so that we encourage our communities to start communal fruit and vegetable gardens for personal or business benefit.”
