VIDEO – Security vehicle incident ignites tensions at Msukaligwa protest

Ermelo residents are questioning the transparency of hiring processes at the local municipality

A peaceful protest at the Msukaligwa Municipality today, 13 September, nearly escalated into violence after a security vehicle entered the premises following some police vehicles, causing tensions to rise among the demonstrators.

In a video taken by the Highvelder, a protester is seen gesturing something as a security vehicle made its way into the municipal premises whereafter it stops and protesters run towards it.

The incident occurred during a gathering of residents who were protesting allegations that despite publicly advertising vacant positions, the municipality has already internally shortlisted preferred candidates.

This practice, they claim, undermines the fairness and merit-based nature of the recruitment process, effectively rendering the open application process a mere formality.

The protesters demanded answers from municipal officials about the alleged unfair hiring practices.
