Minister hands over sport court

MpT Manana, said this was another achievement for the department to have the facility completed and handed over before the due date.

“Last year in March the Ministry of Sports committed to erecting a multi-purpose sports facility for the people of Silobela, Carolina. Today we are delivering and making good on our promise,” Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula said last Wednesday during the handover of the court that caters for seven sporting codes at Zinikeleni Secondary School.

Mr Mbalula and his team completed the 10-month journey with the school that started off with the Minister donating sports equipment and attire to 10 schools around Carolina, and the sod-turning ceremony in May last year.

“This venue is not for bashes or parties, but for recreational purposes after school,” said Mr Mbalula and warned the pupils of the dangers associated with drugs and substance abuse.

MpT Manana, said this was another achievement for the department to have the facility completed and handed over before the due date.

“I’m pleased to announce that three more facilities of this kind will be built in the province before end of the year,” said Ms Manana.Executive Mayor of the Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality, Ms B.P. Shiba, said the school should open the facilities to other schools that might wish to use them.

“We hope our kids make good use of the facility and stay away from drugs and other things that lead them astray, said Ms Shiba.

Mr A.M. Mngomezulu, the school principal, could not contain his excitement when he explained that the school is taking major strides in improving its achievements and facilities. “Last year we opened the school hall, achieved a record high 97 per cent in our Grade 12 results and today we’re hosting the Minister in this prestigious opening,” he said.
