“Mum loved fiercely” : Slain Kloof grandmother’s memory celebrated by her family

The King family said they are touched by the love for Jenny King, shown by the number of people who attended her memorial.

JENNY King’s family honoured her memory at a touching memorial on Saturday attended by far more than the small chapel at the Botha’s Hill, Chantecler Hotel, could hold.

Music played a large part of the service to remember the mother and grandmother who was taken too soon. Jenny’s granddaughter led those in attendance in the favourite children’s hymn, “All things bright and beautiful,” a slide show put together by her family showed images from her life accompanied by some of the 55-year-old mother and grandmother’s favourite music.

“Music was such a big part of my mother’s life,” said daughter, Lee-Anne King, as the sounds of Jenny’s two grandchildren sobbing softly filled the building with grief.

“My mother loved her children, horses and cats,” said a visibly distraught Lee-Anne who was supported by her brother Kyle, his finance Bianca and other friends and family members. These were all in much evidence in the slideshow of photographs of happy times in the life of Jenny King and her family.

“She taught us so much about how to love, she loved completely, and fiercely and without limitations,” said a tearful Lee-Anne while her son, Jenny’s small grandson, clung to his mother’s leg and hugged her to show his support.

With images of butterflies decorating the chapel, and a slideshow with images featuring a background showing a purple-tinged sunset, the family’s message was clear. Focus on beauty, love, and celebration of life. One message was repeated often in each of the speaker’s addresses: “Love the people God gave you because he will need them back one day.”

Her daughter and son both said they were touched by how many people turned up to pay their respects to their mother who was found dead in her Forest Hills home in the early hours of Saturday, 12 January.
