A Speech Therapist is an allied health professional that assesses and treats commincation disorders, including:
Speech delay /Articulation disorders: Phonological processes / ‘Pronounciation’ errors are errors that children make when learning to speak but sometimes they persist beyond the acceptable age resulting in unclear speech. I can assess and check if the child’s speecs develpment is age-appropriate.
Language Delays / Disorders: If your child has difficulty with receptive language I.e. understanding, as well as expressing themselves e.g. poor vocabulary and uses very short sentences in comprarison to other children their age.
Fluendcy Disorders: Stuttering
Language learning disabilities I.e. Literacy difficulties. Starting from pre-school with phonological awareness skills such as, understanding of phonics to the school-aged child with spelling difficultties, reading comprehension and written language difficulties. As well as, management of A.D.H.D.
Neurologically Acquired Communication Disorders such as Aphasia, Dysarthria and Apraxia which can occur following a stroke or head injuury
Feeding and Swallowing disorders: Usually associated with Prematurity, Cleft Lip and/or Palat, Cerebral Palsy and Stroke.
Communication Disorder associated with Autism, cognitive impairment, Down Syndrome and other syndromes/disorders
