Eat pasta, run fasta

The local Pinetown and Districts Athletic Club recently hosted its annual pasta dinner.

IN days gone by it was a tradition for Comrades Marathon runners to carbo-load.

This has since been debunked as a multitude of diets and fitness plans have hit the running community.

In keeping with its tradition, and to add a bit of fun into the mix as the gruelling race nears, the Pinetown and Districts Athletic Club hosted is much-anticipated pasta dinner.

The club’s members gathered en masse for a social evening and were treated to a choice from three scrumptious meals, meat pasta, veggie pasta and roast chicken and veggies.

The guest speaker for the evening was Michelle Tolmay, a specialist in sports nutrition.

She gave the runners a few handy tips on preparation for the race, what to eat on race day as well as post race.

“Runners should have a proper nutrition strategy for the race or they may encounter problems along the route. I wish the runners taking part all the best in this year’s race,” she said.
