Neighbourhood Watch members deter cable theft in Mosely Park

Police and community members work together to stop a cable theft in progress.

MOSELEY Neighbourhood Watch road representatives and members of the Malvern police station responded to a call by a resident’s daughter of electric cable theft in progress, at the intersection of Main Road and Fairlight Road in the early hours of Wednesday 24 July.

So quick was the response and the area cordoned off, that the two suspects abandoned the cut cable on the road and fled.

Without the assistance of a police dog the suspects were able to hide and evade arrest, but in excess of 200 meters of valuable cable was recovered.

“We have had numerous incidents of cable theft this year already, without any arrests. These thieves are equipped for the job and know exactly how to cut and escape with the loot, literally in minutes, ” said Peter Atcheson, security adviser for the watch.
