Telkom takes girls on terrific tour
Kloof High School and Phambili High School girls took part in SA's Take A Girl Child To Work Day programme with Telkom where they looked at the roles of an engineer.
GIRL pupils with aspirations to be engineers from Kloof High School were joined by their counterparts from Phambili High School in Rosebank at Telkom SA’s Take A Girl Child To Work Day on Friday. The girls were encouraged to join the engineering industry as
women are still grossly under-represented in the industry, with very few girls choosing a career in engineering.
They were accompanied by their teachers to a presentation before embarking on a tour of Telkom’s Kloof Microwave tower.
This is the second year Telkom has had such a programme, and indications are that it may become an annual occurrence.
Andiswa Nembe, a Grade 11 pupil at Phambili High School said she learnt a lot about how Telkom works.
“Although other things were a bit confusing, this tour has opened my eyes and made me want to pursue a career in engineering,” said Njilo.
