Three notorious gang members arrested
Criminals that have been terrorising Mariannhill area arrested in Umlazi.
THREE notorious criminals wanted for a spate of house robberies, murder, business robbery, and armed robbery in the iMpola and Thornwood area in Mariannhill were arrested
According to W/O Trevor Govender the gang has been terrorising the area since July this year.
“On Saturday 27 July a man was robbed at gunpoint. On Wednesday 7 August, they shot and killed a man during a house robbery,” he said.
It is reported that in another incident they robbed a tuckshop in Thornwood and shot the owner in the arm.
“On Friday Mariannhill detectives received information on these men.
“A task team was set up headed by Capt David Cele together with the investigating officer Sgt Mvuselelo Cele, the team mobilised on Saturday morning,working with the information they received.
“The investigations led the police to Umlazi where all three men were arrested at 11pm and a 9mm gun was recovered.
“The gun was stolen in Pretoria and the three men were charged and detained at KwaNdengezi Police Station,” said Govender.
The station commander of SAPS Mariannhill, Colonel Themba Mabaso, commended his staff for a job well done.
