The magistrate read all the charges to the accused and informed him of his rights, including the right to hire a private attorney, apply for free legal representation through Legal Aid SA, or conduct his own defence.

Myeza opted for legal aid representation. However, the legal aid attorneys were not present in court.

The matter was postponed to November 3 for an application for legal aid representation and a bail investigation. Myeza will remain in police custody.

We are behind you

Pinetown CPF chairperson Justin Bosse said the father involved in the shoot-out, Sidney Hill, acted in self-defence, protecting not only himself but his son and his daughter.

“As much as there’s a lot of speculations and fake news going around, I’ve known Sidney for a long time and I believe that man acted in the right manner, not only protecting himself but protecting his loved ones, his family too.

“So we stand behind him, we will give him all the support he needs. We know he’s going through a very hectic time at the moment but we stand behind him and help out where we can,” said Bosse.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
