VARSITY College Westville’s 1st year sports management student, Sebastian Crawford, competed at the recent SA Short Course Swimming Championships in Pietermaritzburg in the physically disabled events.
Sebastian is a brilliant competitor and won six out of his seven events, claiming silver in his 7th event and setting four new SA records and one African record in the process. Sebastian competed in the 100m and 200m individual medley, 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 50m and 100m freestyle and the 100m backstroke.
“The venue and the way the competition was run was so professional and I really enjoyed it.” said Sebastian.
He said he was happy to be a Varsity College student and thanked the college as well as Petro Nortjie, his swimming coach, and Prime High Performance Gym where he train’s for all the support and guidance.
Later this year he will compete in the open water 3km and 5km championships.
Sebastian devotes a lot of his swimming to the Extra Mile Foundation as the initiative uses sporting and artistic events to raise awareness and funds to support people with disabilities. Through its sporting events the initiative aims to collect as many mile dedications from supporting athletes. Every mile counts and increases the awareness and support for disability.
