WESTVILLE resident Phillip Mina has praised the quick response of the Pinetown SAPS after he was hijacked on Wednesday 11 September on the corner of Rodger Sishi Road and Nipper Road in New Germany.
Mina, who owns a gardening service, said he had stopped at the corner to pick up his staff when he noticed three armed men walking towards him.
Mina alleges that one of the hijackers pulled him out of his white Kia bakkie at gunpoint and demanded his wallet.
“They did not wear any masks, but I would not be able to identify them. It all happened so fast. In half a minute they were gone,” said Mina.
After the incident Mina phoned the flying squad and the Pinetown SAPS.
“I am very impressed with their service. The police arrived within minutes, ” added Mina.
Pinetown SAPS communications officer Lungile Mbata said police were able to recover the bakkie which was abandoned by the hijackers after it was locked by the vehicle’s immobiliser .
“We were unable to make any arrests,” said Mbata.
He urged residents that are confronted by hijackers not to resist, to remain calm and to speak slowly and clearly.
