Young man dies in freak industrial accident

A Young man died after the back of a truck collapsed on top of him.

A YOUNG man in his late 20s died in an apparent industrial accident in Wiltshire Road in Pinetown on Wednesday 18 September.

According to Vanessa Jackson, spokesperson for ER24, the paramedics responded to a truck manufacturing business, where they found that a young man had suffered fatal injuries when a trailer fell on top of him.

“It appears that he was working at the back of the truck when the trailer fell onto his head. He succumbed to his injuries and died on scene, prior to the paramedics arrival,” said Jackson.

“No one else had been injured in the incident and the safety authorities at the company will conduct all necessary investigations into the cause of this fatal incident. The deceased’s remains were handed over to the local SAPS,” added Jackson.

According to Lt Bongumusa Manqele, Pinetown SAPS communications officer, the police have opened an inquest docket and will be conducting an investigation to determine if the incident was an accident.

Single Hurst Hydrolics, the company that employed the deceased at the time of the accident, was approached for comment, but declined to provide any.
