Intruder arrested after broomstick brawl

The Durban South K9 Unit arrested an 18-year-old intruder after he robbed a Pinetown home recently.

A PINETOWN resident found herself facing off against an intruder in her home, sending him on the run after she attacked him with a broomstick.

The 18-year-old man entered the woman’s home via her dining room entrance on Thursday 26 September and was immediately spotted by the home owner.

According to SAPS media spokesman Captain Thulani Zwane, the woman used the broomstick as a defense weapon when the man started moving towards her.

The intruder was able to steal a laptop and cell phone before he fled on foot.

He was later arrested by members of Durban South K9 Unit who joined a search by community members and security guards. A chase ensued along Marborth Road in New Germany.

“The community members indicated that the intruder had disappeared between the properties in Bohme Road in New Germany and a search using patrol police dogs was conducted.

The dog led the officers to the intruder, who was hiding behind a hut,” said Zwane.

The members of Durban South K9 unit arrested the intruder for house robbery.

“He was searched and found to be in the possession of three cell phones, jewellery and clothes, all of which are believed to have been taken during the house robbery,” concluded Zwane.

He will appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court soon.
