AFTER Birches Eco-School received an Eco-Logic award in the youth category of the Enviropaedia awards held in conjunction with SABC 3, Scilla Edmonds principal of the school hosted an award ceremony for the pupils.
The school celebrated this prestigious award by giving each child a certificate to recognize their personal part in winning the award.
Scilla Edmonds said, “Some of the children saw me on television receiving the award but they do not have a clue what it was about, we have tried to explain to them and made certificates similar to the one I got, for each pupil.
“It has taken 20 years but in an exercise done recently in Grade R, the pupils are convinced that they could live on the premises as if it were an island and live sustainably there for the rest of their lives,” said Edmonds.
Armstrong Mthimkhulu from the Department of Education presented the certificates to the pupils.
