Classic fairytale comes to life

Relax and unwind at the family-friendly pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk this holiday season.

JOIN in on the high-flying action as KickstArt rounds off the year with a fun-filled family pantomime of Jack and the Beanstalk at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre from 29 November until 5 January.

Jack and the Beanstalk will be the eighth annual panto that KickstArt has produced over the last decade and its latest offering is set to be a glorious family outing. The pantomime’s the studio produce have aksi become a much-anticipated highlight in the annual Durban theatre calendar.

Written and directed by Steven Stead, Jack and the Beanstalk stars the talented Rory Booth in the title role, the cast also features Darren King as his eccentric mother Flora Flatbroke, Jessica Sole as Jack’s feisty love interest, Princess Jillian, Liesl Coppin as his evil nemesis, Lady Perfidia Beastly, Shelley MacLean as the good fairy, Glissanda Goldenvox. Peter Court and Bryan Hiles will take on the roles of the hilarious and incompetent crooks, Cecil and Claude. The larger than life giant will be be played by Lyle Buxton.

“This time, our panto is a real adventure story with boisterous chases, meddling baddies and great visual tricks which will appeal to the boys; and with such a strong, independent princess, and lots of magic, it will appeal to the girls too!” said Stead.

The panto has an eclectic mix of music with interpretations of music by Lady Gaga, Michael Buble, some much loved musical theatre numbers and big orchestral pieces.

Jack and the Beanstalk will show from Friday 29 November to Sunday 5 January, with performances at 2.30pm from Tuesday to Sunday and 7pm on Saturday at Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
