Armed robbers target ATM users

Another resident targeted and robbed after drawing cash at an ATM.

ANOTHER Local resident was robbed of an undisclosed amount in Caversham Road in Pinetown on Friday 15 November at approximately 11.55am, after he drew cash from a Standard Bank ATM.

Const Lungile Mbatha reported that the victim pulled over to answer his phone when two men approached him on either side of his vehicle. The robber on the driver’s side of the vehicle was armed and used the gun to break the victim’s window. He subsequently opened the car door as the other robber on the left side climbed into the passenger’s seat.

“They demanded cash from the victim and he showed them that the money was inside the cubbyhole in a bank bag. They took the money and fled the scene in a Silver Polo, driving towards Clermont. No shots was fired and a case docket of armed robbery was opened at Pinetown SAPS,” said Mbatha.

Justin Bosse, the chairman of the Ashley Residents’ Neighbourhood Watch, once again urged residents to avoid drawing large amounts of cash from ATMs, and to remain vigilant when travelling from and to the bank.

The robbery follows a series of ATM robberies that have occurred in the Highway area.
