ITHEMBA academy pupils will now be able polish their sports talent as the campus has completed their two playing fields with the support from Waterfall College and a generous donation from the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF).
The pupils will use the fields for soccer, the kick programme, play ball and other sports critical to gross motor skills development.
Gavin Kruger, Focus on iThemba Chief Operations Officer said, this is a great improvement in their offering on the campus for the children
“Sport is a fantastic channel for children to develop their full potential and has such a wide range of benefits. We are extremely grateful to the NLDTF as their donation enabled us to finish this project. The iThemba campus has a lot of potential in terms of development,” he said.
The non-profit organisation will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2015 and their plans are to develop an eco-path which will spiral around the 48 acre campus to signify this milestone.
“This path will offer educational benefits, siting the names of indigenous plants.
“This unique piece of land is fast becoming a valued educational hub in the Upper Highway area.
“With the support of the community and donors, our iThemba Campus master plan will hopefully be achieved,” said Kruger.
The campus also aims to improve the entrance and roads, plant more indigenous fauna and boost the sustainability projects including the vegetable gardens.
