Burst pipe causes water shortage

New Germany residents left high and dry after pipe burst.

NEW Germany residents are currently without water after a pipe burst in Shepstone Road.

The pipe, which is believed to have burst in the early hours of the night, flooded the road and nearby shops and also caused mud to erupt from the ground.

A worker from the eThekwini Municipality said they started working late last night to fix the burst pipe.

“We are not sure what caused the pipe to burst. My colleagues spent all night trying to pump the water out and we are now digging to find the pipe so that we can replace it.

“There is a water tank that is going around for residents who have been affected as we are not sure when the water will be restored,” said a worker.

Businesses in the area were also affected by the water shortage.
