Karate doctor receives honorary black belt

Kloof resident awarded for his community service.

THE head of International Sankukai-Ryu Karate-Do Federation’s Shihan Barry Stranack (eighth Dan) presented local Dr Leslie D Ramiah, with an honorary black belt.

This prestigious award was to honor the doctor for his community services in the outer inner west councils and greater townships including Wyebank, KwaDabeka and Clermont.

Ramiah, who resides in Kloof, is a medical practitioner, who is also a district surgeon for the Uter Inner West areas of Pinetown and Kloof. He is also involved in clinical forensic medicine working at the Tutuzela Care Centre at RK Khan Hospital.

Besides this, he is also involved in medical legal court matters.

Sensei Paul Mare, who is a sixth Dan, from Waterfall, said he recognised Ramiah’s desire for martial arts and decided to coach him. “He is a special man, an enthusiastic karate exponent and had a brown belt from an institution called Torakan many years ago.

“We decided to present this award to him because this martial art is a very holistic art form which incorporates both physical and mental stimulation and requires the utmost discipline. It is this discipline which is close to his heart which is also embodied in the art of medicine,” said Mare.
