EDITOR – We live in Knelsby Avenue in Hillcrest and have been without a road sign for the past five months.
Knelsby Avenue also houses the Outer West Roads Depot. A number of people in our road have visited the Roads Depot to ask when a new sign will be erected on the entry to our road, from the Old Main Road that runs through Hillcrest. We are repeatedly told it will arrive “next week.” Well, needless to say, “next week” never comes. We have heard that the Procurement Department cannot get their act together but that is surely not the residents’ fault. It has also been suggested that we as residents should pay for a new sign and they will put it up. I thought that is what we pay our rates for.
In desperation we have painted a road sign and put this up ourselves. Is this the kind of incompetence that is going to be voted in again on Wednesday 7 May. The mind boggles. If they can’t get a simple thing like a road sign replaced, what is not happening to the major issues? David Road in West Riding has also been without a road sign for at least five months.
